Movie review in which the play is based on:
Christmas is the time for peace and joy. It is the day set aside each year for families to become closer and for the world to reflect on what is important to them. That is not the case with Ebenezer Scrooge. He is the man who cares nothing for giving and being merry to people around him. Instead, he rather be alone and grumpy. That is the premise for the British animated adaptation of A Christmas Carol based on the beloved novel by Charles Dickens.
The movie, which directed by Jimmy T. Murakami, and features the voices of Kate Winslet and Nicolas Cage, presents a tale of a man who did not understand the spirit of Christmas until several phases of his life is flash before his eyes. The film, which starts with a live action sequence set in Boston and later connects into an animated element, features Scrooge (voiced by Simon Callow) being visited by numerous stages of life; from Christmas Past, Present and Future.
Although the film has a celebrity cast and the premise is vastly familiar, this adaptation lacks substance because the artistic view is shadow by the different computer technology used throughout the film. This animated version fails in comparison to the George C. Scott's rendition or the Alastair Sim's original. The script was truly the classic that people recognized, but it was not the same feeling that a person would get when seeing the live action and emotions that, for example, Alastair Sim provides in the older movie.
Adults may not like this edition of the classic narrative, but it is a perfect view for kids.
